An article on espn.com says that the New York Times is reporting that the UFC has been in talks with NBCUniversal and met with them Wednesday about purchasing a majority stake in the G4 channel. It is rumored that the UFC is looking to acquire 60 percent ownership in G4. UFC president Dana White has previously stated that the company is interested in owning a television network as well as bringing the UFC to network television, owning a controlling stake in G4 could very well accomplish both of those things.
On paper you’d think I’d be stoked, combining two of my passions mma and video games, but what would happen to G4′s current format? I’d like to have some reassurance that shows like Attack of the Show, X-Play, Ninja Warrior, and new shows like Proving Grounds and the new Marvel anime’s that they acquired the rights to would still be there. If those shows were spared and the rest of the day was focused on the UFC on G4 then I would be thrilled, but right now we just don’t know much and if this acquisition does happen in my mind it will either be very good or very bad.
